Album Details
Anyone who’s seen them play knows that it’s a party, and Oh! Calcutta!, is a carefully crafted extension of that party made especially for you! Don’t get the wrong idea, this is a proper studio album, it just has something that a lot of albums lack, certain intensity. Compared to great threepiece bands like Jawbreaker, and the more contemporary Alkaline Trio, THE LAWRENCE ARMS further develop their frantic version of ornate Midwestern power pop with this release. Cohesion between co-vocalists (Chris and Brendan) makes for the band’s best album to date. Alcohol-induced stories of friendship and love, spattered with literary references, and jokes on pop culture permeate the lyrical content of the album. Even a nod to the 80’s author Judy Bloom is dished with "Are You There Margaret? It’s Me, God."
