Album Details

1998's He Got Game is the sixth studio album and soundtrack to the Spike Lee basketball film of the same name - starring Denzel Washington and NBA star Ray Allen - from hip hop luminaries Public Enemy. Built largely around the motif of using sports as a metaphor for life, He Got Game was PE's last for longtime label Dej Jam and first studio effort since 1994's Muse Sick-n-Hour Mess Age. Established producers The Bomb Squad are up to their old tricks here albeit with the success of contemporaries like the Wu-Tang Clan and Puff Daddy in the back of their minds. In addition to the title track single which samples the Buffalo Springfield classic "For What It's Worth," the 13-track effort features guest appearances by Masta Killa ("Ressurrectin") and KRS-One ("Unstoppable"). Public Enemy was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2013, making them the fourth hip hop act after Grandmaster Flash & The Furious Five, Run-DMC and the Beastie Boys.
