John Mellencamp
The Lonesome Jubilee LP
John Mellencamp's career in music, spanning more than 35 years, has seen him transition from pop star to one of the most highly regarded songwriters of a generation and The Voice of The Heartland. Five Mellencamp albums will be reissued on 180g vinyl in June 2016 by Mercury/UMe. New lacquers for American Fool, Uh-Huh, Scarecrow, The Lonesome Jubilee, and Big Daddy were cut from their original analog master tapes by Chris Bellman at Bernie Grundman Mastering, with the LPs manufactured by Record Industry. The albums will be available individually and gathered in a limited edition 5LP box set, The Vinyl Collection 1982-1989.
John Mellencamp closed out the 1980's and an era with the more folk-inspired and reflective Big Daddy, his last record credited to John Cougar Mellencamp with the 'Cougar' being dropped hereafter. The platinum-certified 1989 effort peaked at No. 7 on the Billboard 200 and yielded the two Mainstream Rock Top 10's "Pop Singer" and "Martha Say." Mellencamp himself stated in 1991 that, "Big Daddy was the best record I ever made. Out of my agony came a couple of really beautiful songs. You can't be 22 years old and had two dates and understand that album."
