Album Details
More than four decades after it's original release, Jimi Hendrix's first-ever posthumous album gets the treatment it's long deserved. Remastered from the original analog tapes by Bernie Grundman and pressed on 200g LP at QRP, The Cry of Love sounds better than ever, with the legendary guitarist's futuristic playing and soulful deliveries now possessing unrivaled presence, dynamics, extension, and tonal balance. The record—recently cited by VH1 as the greatest posthumous classic-rock release in history—also features the original cover artwork and track sequencing, making this pressing absolutely essential and unmistakably definitive.
Originally released in 1971, The Cry Of Love was compiled and mixed by Hendrix’s longtime engineer Eddie Kramer and Experience drummer Mitch Mitchell. The bulk of the tracks were recorded between December 1969 and the summer of 1970 at Electric Lady Studios in New York, and were intended to be part of an ambitious double LP tentatively titled First Rays of the New Rising Sun. Commercially, The Cry Of Love was a huge success, reaching #3 in the U.S. and #2 in the UK, and spawned favorites such as “Angel,” “Freedom,” and “Ezy Ryder.”
